My Mom, Lydia Ashmead Strother, enjoying life as ever she did,
in Italy in the 1950's shortly before she started dating my Dad.
10/17/2003 - My mother Lydia passed away October 5, 2003 with my Dad at her side. She had been battling cancer for a remarkable twenty years. I came across the above transparency while looking for pictures for the service. I had never seen it before, and I think it captures better than any other picture I have seen of my Mom her positive outlook on life and joy for living.
My father wrote a beautiful obituary for my mother, which you can read here.
Over the weekend I did two things I had not done in a long time (and should do more often): go for a walk, and take photographs. I've been doing a lot of reflecting on my Mom's life and my own, but my reflections were particularly strong when I went for this walk.
Below are some of the pictures I took while walking in Huntington State Park, which straddles the line between Bethel and Redding, Connecticut, on October 13, 2003.

The sun descending behind a large rock
A view of the pond
Reflection of autumn trees

Developers and Job Seekers
11/24/2002 -- Well, all good things must come to an end. My
stint with FirstMatter has closed; I
am now a "free spirit" in the IT world. The gang in Westport have all
been great to work with, and for, for the last four years. It's been a
great experience that has helped me to grow professionally and personally.
I will still do maintenance work (as a consultant) for Watts, Mary and Darrell
on an 'as-needed' basis. Which leaves me available to consult for other
companies and pursue professional interests and projects.
During this process I will be developing a portal page
to assist in the process of finding consulting gigs or employment. If you
are an IT person in Fairfield County, Connecticut, or Westchester County, New
York, you may it

frequently than this page. It's mostly pictures, but occasionally
there are some random thoughts as well.
